Learn to See
It's my strong belief that few things can help you grow faster as a painter than painting often and painting from direct observation, whether that is during a plein air session or setting a still life in the studio.
This class is for you if you have you been wanting to tackle painting from life. By doing so, I believe you can dramatically improve your skills and feel more confident. We will meet in my backyard once a week for one month to make that happen!
We’ll cover the process from start to finish and get you excited to keep going on your own. I’ll share with you tricks I’ve picked up along the way that will help you lose your fear of painting from life.

How to prepare your surfaces
Colour mixing
Composition
How to choose what to paint
How to develop a daily painting practice
How to start a series
How to finish your paintings and get them ready for display
And much more I’m sure!
We’ll do oodles of exercises to help you sharpen your eye and get going.
I will be painting in oils and will cover my journey in transtioning from acrylics to oils. Lots of the topics will be foundational and independent of the medium you use. You can paint in acrylics or oils.
A list of recommended materials will be sent after registration. I don't want you to go buy a bunch of new colours but rather feel familiar and confident with the ones you already have.
Some experience in painting is preferred.

I’ll be mentoring a small group of Aspiring Artists with Matrius, a mentorship community I have been a part of since Jan 2021. In our small group, we will meet online. We’ll tackle the hurdles and challenges we face as artists and in our own individual art practices.
Our group will dig into technical aspects like getting to know your materials, composition & colour. We will also set goals, make a plan and TAKE ACTION which will help you find your unique voice and start shaping your art business! It will help boost your skill and confidence for sure.
